Vinesh Phogat 2024 Olympics: In what is a heart breaking news for the Indian fans, India’s star wrestler Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from the ongoing Paris Olympics as she couldn’t reach the weight of 50kg on Wednesday morning for her 50kg gold medal bout.
As per sources, she weighed around 100 grams above the permissible limit, and thats why she got disqualified. As per the rules, she won’t be eligible even for the silvermedal event and the 50kg category will now have just gold and bronze medal winners.
An official announcement would be made later in the day. She did qualify for all the fights on Tuesday as per the rules but for the wrestlers should be staying within their weight categories on both the days of the events.
As per Indian Express, the wrestler who qualified for the finals against all odds, weighed 2kg overnight on Tuesday night. She couldn’t sleep the whole night and did everything she could to qualify, from jogging to cycling.

But it wasn’t enough. But the Indian delegation has asked for some time so that she can lose those extra 100 grams.
This isn’t the first time that she has failed to qualify in this category as compared to the 53kg category, in which she usually she participates. She faced a similar situation during the qualification fo the mega event, where she qualified narrowly.
On Tuesday, she became the first woman wrestler to have qualified for the summit. In the gold medal bout, she defeated the World No.1 Yui Susaki of Japan and then won two more matches against wrestlers from Ukraine and China.
She was supposed to lock horns with Sarah Hildebrandt in the summit clash against whom she had a better record. But the American will now win a gold medal and Phogat won’t get anything.
