Meta has announced that all chats and calls on Facebook Messenger will now be secured with end-to-end encryption (E2EE) by default. This is an important step that will provide greater security and privacy to users.
E2EE means that only you and the person you are sending the messages to can read or listen to the messages. Even Facebook can’t do it. This helps keep your conversations private and secure.
E2EE was previously known as “Secret Conversations” on Facebook Messenger. Now, this will be the default setting of all chats and calls on Facebook Messenger.
If you don’t want to use E2EE, you can turn it off. However, Meta encourages all users to use it.
Benefits of E2EE:
- Enhanced Privacy: E2EE ensures that only you and the person you are messaging can read or listen to your messages.
- Enhanced security: E2EE ensures that your messages cannot be intercepted by third parties.
Peace of mind: Using E2EE can give you peace of mind knowing that your conversations are private and secure.
How to turn on E2EE:
Open Facebook Messenger.
- Tap the name of the person you want to talk to.
- Tap “E2E Encrypted” below their profile picture.
- Tap “Turn on end-to-end encryption.”
More about E2EE:
If you want to learn more about E2EE, you can find more information on Facebook’s website.
This announcement is a huge win for Facebook Messenger users. Using E2EE can help you keep your conversations private and secure.
